Shekinah Village

A place where God's glory shines!

Since its inception in April 2007, Shekinah Village continues to develop with unexpected enthusiasm!! The plans the Lord has given to create a church camp/retreat continue to unfold and expand. Presently, we have four cabins under roof, the land has been cleared and reseeded, the old sawmill has been refurbished and the RV park is completed. Numerous groups have assisted in this project from Georgia to North Carolina.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Plans are ongoing to build an additional three cabins, two of which will house 20 people each. Fencing and landscaping are also in progress. Trails are being developed for horseback riding, hiking and limited ATV use. The lakes add a new and wonderful dimension with swimming, fishing and peddle boats. We are convinced that Shekinah Village will be a viable part of the Meridzo Center Ministries, Letcher County, and surrounding counties, the state of Kentucky and the world!! The ministry possibilities are limitless as related to the village.

We believe God desires to reach children, youth and adults through Shekinah Village. The facility, when complete, will have the capacity to house 40 individuals for camps and retreats. Church groups will also be able to take advantage of the beauty and serenity of this spacious mountain get-away featuring horseback riding on the mountain trails, fishing, paddle boats, and limited ATV riding.

A special thanks must go to Bro. Dan Lawson or Lawson Construction Company. He has tirelessly labored along with his staff and equipment to make the Village a beautiful place indeed. Thank you so much our dear brother for your unselfish generosity. Continue to pray for the Lord to raise up summer season staff for this facility.

The Hays Cabin

The Hays Cabin was built by the love and service of so many people. Named after the faithful Living Room in Hayes Cabin

couple, Dixon and Bernice Hays. Completely furnished and functional, this beautiful cabin sits on the edge of Pay Lake in Shekinah Village.  It is completely decked out in cedar siding, wood floors and ceiling, and all the rustic elements one would picture in a mountain cabin by the lake.  Even though it is a rustic cabin, it has is decorated with country style and tradition that charms  the walls with quilts and sets the tables with pottery and apples.

You will be sure to love this mountain getaway.  The living room is open to the kitchen and dining area with vaulted ceilings. Just as the word 'Peace' hangs over the hallway door, that is exactly the atmosphere of this cabin as soon as you walk in the doors.  The kitchen has everything one would need, from all the fixings for a great cup of coffee Kitchen in Hayes Cabin

in the morning to anything one would need to cook a delicious meal.  The cozy dining area is just right for the area. From the pottery to the apples and open nature of the room, it invites you to sit and enjoy family time around the table over a hot meal.

The bedroom and bath continue to offer that Dining Area of Hayes Cabinmountain feel with the added comforts of home, and as you drift off to sleep at night you can listen to an assortment of Christian music or open the windows to hear the God's symphony of the Great Outdoors.  The Bedroom has one queen sized bed.  Additional beds can be provided upon request. Right off the bedroom is a wonderfully spacious porch for resting and Bedroom at Hayes Cabin

relaxing by the lake.

View of the back of Hayes CabinThis cabin rents for $99 a night or $425 a week.  It is 15 minutes from downtown Cumberland, 15 minutes from the Coal Mine Museum and Portal 31 in Benham and Lynch, and 20 minutes from the Letcher County Seat of Whitesburg.  While you stay in the cabin you can enjoy Free Wireless Internet, great fishing in the lake, local artisan centers in nearby Hindman, authentic Appalachian Bluegrass music on 88.7 from the Appalshop in Whitesburg, horseback riding in the arena or along mountain trails, homemade candy from the Mercantile Store down the road, or a moon pie from JD Maggards, est. in 1923 and featured in the movie, Coal Miners Daughter.

On Sundays you are minutes away from Cumberland Community Christian Center, another ministry of Meridzo Center, as well as a variety of small country churches of many denominations.

Also just up the road from Shekinah Village is the beautiful Kingdom Come State Park that boasts paddle boats, putt-putt golf, picnic areas, playgrounds, trails, and the 14 mile scenic drive called Little Shepherds Trail which will take you to the top of Pine Mountain for some great snapshots of your visit to Eastern Kentucky.  You can also visit the highest peak in Kentucky on Black Mountain outside Lynch.  Also, in the summer there is the Black Bear Festival in Cumberland, the Memorial Day Celebration at the Breaks Interstate Park, the musical concerts on the mountain in Kingdom Come State Park's cave amphitheater, fishing and swimming in near by Carr Creek Lake, and much more! There are also many local restaurants with delicious food in the nearby towns of Cumberland, Wise/Norton, Va, and Whitesburg.
