Stables At Creekside Glen
The horses are also helping with the work of the Lord's Kingdom! The Stables At Creekside Glen Ministry goal is to work with at-risk children while sharing Jesus with all who come. This ministry is located in nearby Letcher County. It features 15 acres of pastures, 3 stables, and trails. We use the horses in a variety of ways within the local community. From riding lessons to free week long camps, to discipleship training, to carriage rides in parades or for private use, to you name it, we try and serve all who come with whatever they need. It will be exciting to see what God chooses to do with this opportunity.
The stable ministry has proven to be one of the most unique ministries of Southeastern Kentucky. These are the different areas the Lord has chosen to use the horses this past year:
Lil' Buckaroo Boot Camp:
This past summer we hosted two week long camps where we were able to share the Gospel throughout the entire week's activities. The kids had a blast learning about Jesus as they learned how to take care of and ride horses. They practiced Scripture as they roped and rode the bucking barrel. They sang songs about the amazing love of God and how seeking Him daily keeps us from being 'tumbleweeds'. They left all their worries behind as they ran around capturing the flag and dressing up like cowboys for relay races. The kids watched great horsemanship demonstrations from the Way of the Cross Ministries in one week's camp, and We also praise Jesus, our loving Savior, for accepting 4 young men and women into His Kingdom that week! We can not wait for next summer's camps!
Individual Riding Lessons:
We had 12 students who were involved with our riding lessons this past year. At the beginning of each lesson we were able to give a devotional that pertained to what the lesson was about that day. We were also able to give each student a Bible to guide them through their trail ride of life.
Carriage Rides:
Our loan Belgian horse, Rocky, and his black carriage also find and important role within our ministry. Rocky and the carriage are used for many different activities ranging from weddings to parades and even to rides for church groups.
Christmas is our biggest time to pull out Rocky for parades and carriage rides. One of the most enjoyable times we have of the year is watching the community light up when they get to ride in the carriage. It gives us a great opportunity to build relationships and share the love of Christ within the Christmas Season.
Gospel Rodeo:
We hosted a Gospel Rodeo again this past October. This was a great event that also held a great turnout. We were proud to have the Glory Riders from 3 different states present their amazing horsemanship skills riding and standing on their horses as they shared the story of Jesus' birth, death, resurrection, and his second coming. It was a beautiful event as they pulled out their American flags to say we still need Jesus in this wonderful country that we love.
We also enjoyed the musical talent of the world famous Adrian Ross, Australia’s “Premier Indigenous Didgeridoo Performer”. His mixture of traditional Australian indigenous music along with the
contemporary feel of rhythm & dance really wooed our crowd.
We ended the night with pony rides for the kids, and by the way the kids and parents flocked to get in line, the horses were definitely the stars of the evening.
During the evening we had two families that asked us to pray with them and over 300 families that heard the Gospel of Jesus shared. We want to thank all of the volunteers that donated items, cooked, served food, helped set up & tear down, led horses around, and helped to make the event such fun and such an honor to the body of Christ working together! We look forward to the 2011 Gospel Rodeo!
Helping Horse Program:
We have recently teamed up with a local elementary schools resource center teaching children who have autism how to care for the horse and ride the horse. After the grooming and horsemanship demonstrations, we lead them around and encourage communication, balance, and following instructions. Then we ride off to the sawmill for a picnic lunch in the horse drawn wagon. The wagon ride loops around Shekinah Village where the kids enjoy the view of the lake and the mountains behind it. It has been the most rewarding times watching these little kids come to our stables and love on the horses. Every time we schedule them to come we get excited.
Mountain Trail Adventure Horse Camp:
This summer we are planning the first ever trail riding camp for high school age students who are serious about learning how to ride horses and want to take the horses on the trail. The camp will be a long weekend camp where experienced riders can enjoy riding alongside our wranglers and our director Drew Baldwin along our ridge top trails, and inexperienced riders can learn the basics in the area and on our beginner tails.
Trail Rides:
We host trail rides for all ages who are experienced in horseback riding. You may bring your own horse or allow us to pair you up with one of our horses.
Wrangler Internships:
This past fall was our first Wrangler Internship. We had two local girls come out the barn and learn all about horses and how to care for them and how to ride. These two girls will be continuing in the Spring where they will be joined by two more local girls who have started braving the cold and helping out at the barn once a week. This program is open to male or female high school age or older, who are interested in learning about horses and have the desire to learn more about Jesus as they do.
**We are currently looking for Wranglers and assistant Wranglers for the summer. They must have graduated from high school and are ready to work alongside us this summer serving in horse camps, trail rides, carriage rides, and more!**
The Lord has done a great work this past year through The Stables and we are excited to see what he does in 2011.
