Stables At Creekside Glen
The horses are also helping with the work of the Lord's Kingdom! The Stables At Creekside Glen Ministry goal is to work with at-risk children while sharing Jesus with all who come. This ministry is located in nearby Letcher County. It features 15 acres of pastures, 3 stables, and trails. We use the horses in a variety of ways within the local community. We have just been given a great opportunity to offer a Stable Management class through our local community college. It will be exciting to see what God chooses to do with this opportunity. Construction work for this project is currently in progress. We are also seeking the donation of horses and riding equipment.
The stable ministry has proven to be one of the most unique ministries of Southeastern Kentucky. These are the different areas the Lord has chosen to use the horses this past year:
Lil’ Cow Pokes Day Camp:
Last summer we hosted a two day camps where we were able to share the Gospel through a devotional and crafts. We also were able to teach about the many different aspects of the horse to the lil’ cow pokes.
Individual Riding Lessons:
We had 12 students who were involved with our riding lessons this past year. At the beginning of each lesson we were able to give a devotional that pertained to what the lesson was about that day. We were also able to give each student a Bible to guide them through their trail ride of life.
Carriage Rides:
Our loan Belgian horse Rocky and his black carriage also find and important role within our ministry. Rocky and the carriage are used for many different activities ranging from weddings to parades and even to rides for church groups.
Christmas is our biggest time to pull out Rocky for parades and carriage rides. One of the most enjoyable times we have of the year is watching the community light up when they get to ride in the carriage. It gives us a great opportunity to build relationships and share the love of Christ within the Christmas Season.
Gospel Rodeo:
We hosted a Gospel Rodeo this past October during the 10th anniversary of Meridzo Center, Inc. This was a great event that also held a great turnout. The Gospel was shared in three different ways: First was through a round pen testimony by Russell Terry a horse trainer from Virginia. He was able to tell the testimony of how Jesus Christ transformed his life while training a horse.
Second, Calvary for Christ came down from Illinois to share the Gospel through a flag presentation done on horseback.
Third, Scott Mendes, a world champion bull rider, closed out the night by sharing his personal testimony. Scott uses bull riding as the arena to share the love of Jesus Christ.
This is an event that we would love to host on an annual basis.
Lil’ Britches Day:
New to our program is Lil’ Britches Day. We have recently teamed up with a local elementary schools resource center teaching children who have autism how to care for the horse and ride the horse. It has been the most rewarding times watching these lil’ britches come to our stables and love on the horses. Every time we schedule them to come we get excited.
Currently we are in the process of selecting local teens to assist in an ‘internship’ program. They will learn horse care, facility maintenance and riding. The big plus is we will be able to share Christ one on one with the teens.
The Lord has done a great work this past year through The Stables and we are excited to see what he does in 2010.
